Members of the Pagan Cluster joined the march, then did an Earth People ritual and action later in the afternoon of Monday, June 23. Skip ahead to the Earth People ritual and action
The march danced and chanted its way toward the downtown shopping mall......where they were met by a contingent of police.
Earth People danced around the police, but were prevented from entering the mall. Eventually police forced the march onto a side street.
As the crowd turned the corner, dozens of armed riot police materialized. A loudpseaker blared a warning that "sublethal force" including stun-guns and projectile rifles would be used on any protesters who did not disperse. But the cordon of police refused to let anyone leave the march.
While legal liaisons negotiated with the police, the Earth People huddled at the corner, surrounded by the larger crowd. Police eventually ordered the crowd to march north. Squads of riot police lined the route, threatening anyone who strayed from the route. Finally, near the Protest Convergence Center, police backed off. The Earth People and supporters circled up and did a spiral dance before opening sacred space and ending the ritual.Return to the top-of-page index Return to photos of the Sacramento rally and march.
