San Francisco, March 2008Direct Action to Stop the WarPhotos by Luke HauserOn March 19, 2008, hundreds of people took part in a peace march, spiritual witness, and nonviolent direct action protesting the United States' ongoing war in Iraq. The direct action was anchored largely by spiritual-based activists, including many people from Reclaiming. Over 100 people were arrested in civil disobedience actions. The action was coordinated by Direct Action to Stop War.
Die-Ins in protest of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and against the torture-prison at Guantanamo blocked downtown streets.
How many Witches can you count in this photo? I see at least three, not to mention Daniel Ellsberg, top center.
Eventually police moved in and arrested the scattered groups of protesters.
One of over 100 arrests in downtown San Francisco. Protesters were cited and given future court dates. Most San Francisco civil disobedience arrests result in community service or short jail time.
