Defending Women's Right to ChooseMiscellaneous shotsJanuary 22, 2005 * Photos by Luke HauserJanuary 22nd, 2005 was the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the court decision that legalized abortion in the United States. "Walk for Life West Coast," an anti-choice event, was scheduled for that same date. Local activists an the San Francisco Board of Supervisors declared that January 22nd would be Stand Up for Choice Day. Here are some faces from the pro-choice march. San Francisco police have an annoying habit of "escorting" protest marches by riding columns of motorcycles at the front of the parade, giving the impression they are leading the march. Critical Mass bicyclists went the police one better, riding bikes out in front of the motorcycles to give the police a people's escort.
Out-of-towners stop for lunch at one of San Francisco's many world-class restaurants.
This anti-choice staffer seemed intent on videotaping some of us photographing the march - finally we realized he was actually taking shots of Coit Tower, another local landmark.
Balloons - the photographer's nemesis.
